Embarrassing

Well folks, half of what I feared become reality today, an embarrassing, embarassing loss to GTech in the ACC regular season finale. If BC gets trounced in the first round of the ACC tourney, especially by one of the lesser teams like NC State, Miami or Wake, mark my words, there will be some squirming come Selection Sunday. We're probably a lock for the NCAA given the high team and conference RPI, but who would you seed higher, a reeling BC squad or rising GTech or Maryland? I think BC's looking at an 8 seed right now.

BC lost this game before they got off the bus. Despicable play by everyone, and I mean everyone, including usual stalwarts Jared Dudley and Ty Rice. I'm harboring some pointed ire for Sean Marshall and Tyler Roche, who conspired to put BC in the big first half hole with a bevy of bonehead plays and sloppy turnovers. As is well-documented, I just can't stand Marshall, the guy has the mental fortitude of a jellyfish. He continues to disappear in big games. John Oates also sucked down low, but thankfully Skinner had (kind of) a quick hook with him. But it's hard to really single out anyone for this crapshow, it was an utter disaster, a mail-it-in-what region-are we going-to failure from the top of the roster on down. I can't believe how passionless they were, especially with first place on the line.

I don't feel good at all about this team's prospects in either the ACC tourney or the NCAA tourney. I am troubled by how many times BC jas gotten absolutely thumped since the Dope Dismissals. I mean, take a look, Duke killed them twice, Clemson buried them, VTech embarrassed them, and now GTech. They struggled against Clemson at home and Miami on the road, and only had one legitimate win down the strech, at home against VTech. If it weren't for a couple of save-our-ass wins that BC stole against Florida State, we'd be looking at 17-12, 8-8 and the NIT.

reeling... that's probably the best way to describe this team right now. going into the game, i actually carried notions of a potential ACC regular season championship given va-tech & uva's losses earlier on in the weekend (which is exactly what BC needed). i said to myself, "all we need is a UNC loss in order to make this happen!" shame on me for even thinking that BC winning was a given. it was so frustrating to see that ugly start. nobody can blame it on the long layoff, BC needed the rest. in fact, i thought that we'd come out with fresh legs. not to be. the toughest thing to swallow right now is that the flex offense has been so inefficient. so many tight passes in the paint have been intercepted. i, for one, trust skinner a lot... however, the team just hasn't shown the patience nor the execution to make the flex work. our offense is literally painful to watch. we can only hope that things snap back together going into the ACC & NCAA tourney. can't help but be nervous though...

I was at the game today and there were several things that flew in the face of my ususal "cup is half-full" stance: In warmups we looked positively lethargic and it absolutely carried through to the first ten minutes of the game. Why does Tyler Roche start? I know we are thin and he needs to give us a few minutes here and there but the poor guy isn't even strong enough to hold his position and receive a pass in the "flux" offense. He's a great shooter? No, he ain't. His release is too low making him five inches shorter and his rotation on the ball is terrible. Of course, I had to surmise this from warmups because he doesn't have the athleticism to actually get his shot off during the game. I feel bad for him because he needs another year at least before he can compete at this level.
Oates--it's been beaten to death but why does this guy get minutes?? We can't expect to win a game when two of our starters don't score and the probability of that happening is alarmingly high right now.
Al might want to draw up an out of bounds play. Seems logical when your point guard is 5'11" 160 lbs to not leave him completely alone time and time again. We don't even have a second guy back there to set a screen for him. Dudley's second option is to bounce it off a defender's butt.
I've watched just about every game this year and either Reverend Al is a genius for actually getting 10 ACC wins with this group or he's asleep at the pulpit. Maryland could beat us by 40 if we don't wake up.

Al Skinner is the most overrated coach in the ACC. A lot of Al defenders absolutely bashed me when I said I'd take Hewitt as my in-game coach over Skinner any day of the week. And like a magician, Al truly proved the crux of my thesis correct today.

you need to stop posting the exact same thing on 5 different blogs every game. Now you have your own blog, so use it. That's what it is for
